Choosing a story
start hereWhat makes your stories different?
I write across genres and adapt my voice to whatever a story asks for, but certain things remain constant beneath the surface.
My writing tends toward the mythic and the intimate: stories that either leave you with something warm and whole, or leave you with a question. Sometimes both. I believe a story should do something to the person who receives it. My promise: to hold up a mirror.
Which story is right for me?
A thought that keeps coming back? The Mirror Conversation, or Magic Fiction if you'd rather write than talk.
Someone you love going through something hard? Magic Fiction as a gift, or a gift certificate so they can choose.
You like learning who you are? Tarot Fiction.
A child who needs to understand something? Children's Fiction.
A birthday or a milestone? Birthday Fiction.
What is The Mirror Conversation?
We talk, one to one, for an hour. It won't be heavy: we won't dig for wounds or force anything open. I listen for the thread. Then I write you a story of about 3,000 words from what came up.
Can I give a story to someone going through something painful?
Yes. Tell me what's happening, how close it still is, and what you'd want them to hear. I write with care, and the story will never say more than you'd want it to.
Can a story help my child understand something?
Tell me what's happening in their world (a new sibling, a move, a goodbye, a fear) and what you'd like them to understand. I write it at their age, as a story they can ask for again.
Is this therapy?
No. It's fiction, grounded in real narrative theory. It isn't a clinical service, and it doesn't replace one if that's what you need.
How it works
How do I get started?
Every story begins the same way: you tell me something true.
- You commission. Choose your story, add it to your cart, and fill in the short form that appears before checkout. Tell me what I need to know.
- I sit with it. I read what you've shared. I begin.
- I write. Every word chosen by hand. No AI. No template. Just the story.
- You receive it. A PDF arrives. If you chose the typewritten option, it arrives by post.
Written by a human?
No AI. No shortcuts. Every word chosen by me, a person who sat with your life and thought about you before writing a single sentence. I never write a story in one day: the first draft is by hand, then it rests, then I rewrite it.
How long does it take?
Shop stories arrive within 10 business days. For a specific date or a custom length, email me before you order. For The Mirror Conversation, we agree on a date together during the call, usually about 10 days.
What's the typewritten option?
I type your story on my typewriter. There's no delete key, so every word is pressed into the page once, and it stays. It takes me hours, so it costs a little more. Write to me for the price. What you receive is an object, not a file. Something to hold, frame, or put in a drawer and find again in ten years.
Which languages do you write in?
English, French, Spanish and German. Tarot Fiction is in English, French or Spanish. You choose in the order form.
After it arrives
What if I don't love it?
Every commission includes one full round of revisions. If something doesn't feel right (the tone, a detail, the ending) you tell me, and I rewrite it. No extra cost.
Can I share or reuse my story?
Yes, it’s yours to keep, read and share. Wherever it goes, even if you reuse or adapt it, keep my name with it: written by Julie, Mot Vivant. The writing stays mine, so it can’t be sold, published for profit or used commercially without my written permission. I may share and use the stories I write, in my portfolio, on this site and in my marketing, always with names and personal details changed. If you’d rather I never share yours, just tell me.
Can I give a story as a gift?
Yes. Tick "This is a gift" when you order and I'll send you a printable certificate with your dedication. They have 6 months to tell me about themselves. Or give a gift certificate and let them choose the story.
Price
Why does a story cost what it does?
Every story finds its own rhythm, but none of them happen in an afternoon. The price is those days, and the attention I give you in them.
I want to write fewer stories, and write them better. When prices are low, the only way to make this work is to write fast. I don't want to write fast. Raising my prices means I can give each person more of my time. That time is the story.
What if I can't afford it?
Write to me anyway. Tell me your situation, why you want this story, and who it's for. I read every message, and sometimes I lower the price for someone who needs a story. I can't do it for everyone, but I'd rather you ask than not.
