Who we are

Mot Vivant is a custom fiction service run by Julie Lebreton, one writer working directly with one person at a time. When you commission a story here, you are not dealing with a company. You are dealing with a human being who will read what you share, sit with it, and write something made only for you.

This policy explains what information this website collects, why, and what happens to it. It is written to be read, not to be navigated around.

The website itself

This website is hosted by Squarespace. When you visit, Squarespace automatically collects certain technical information in order to run the site. This includes information about your browser, network and device, your IP address, web pages you visited before arriving here, and details about how you interact with this site — such as pages visited, clicks, scrolling, searches, and timestamps. This information is provided to Squarespace as our hosting provider so they can operate and protect the platform. Analytics

This website uses Squarespace's built-in analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. The information collected includes your IP address, browser and device details, and basic interaction data such as pages visited and time spent. This data is aggregated and used only to improve the site experience. It is not used to identify you personally.

Cookies

This website uses two types of cookies. Necessary cookies are always active — they are required for Squarespace to serve this website securely and cannot be switched off. Analytics cookies are only placed after you acknowledge the cookie banner; these help us understand how visitors use the site in aggregate. No advertising cookies are used on this site. Fonts

This website displays type using Google Fonts. In order to render these fonts correctly, your browser may share technical information with Google, including your IP address and browser details. This happens automatically as part of how web fonts work.

When you place a commission

When you submit a commission form on this site, I collect your name, your email address, and the details you share about the story — the person it is for, the occasion, the prompts you answer, and anything else you choose to tell me.

This information is stored by Squarespace as part of providing the website's form and hosting services. I use it for one purpose only: to write your story, to communicate with you about it, and to deliver it to you.

I do not use what you share for any other purpose. I do not share it with anyone. I do not analyse it, aggregate it, or reference it outside of our commission. What you tell me lives inside the story I write for you, and nowhere else.

Payments

Payments on this site are processed through Squarespace Payments. Squarespace works with the following third-party providers to handle transactions securely:

  • Sift — fraud monitoring and detection. Privacy policy at sift.com/service-privacy

I do not see, store, or have access to your full payment details at any point. Your card information is handled entirely by Stripe.

Emails you may receive

After you submit a commission, I will be in touch by email to confirm it, to ask any questions I need answered before I begin, and to deliver your completed story. If you have chosen a revision, that communication will also happen by email. These messages are a necessary part of fulfilling your commission and cannot be unsubscribed from.

Your email address is shared with Squarespace solely so they can send these messages on my behalf. It is not used for any marketing purpose without your explicit consent.

How long I keep your information

I keep your commission details for as long as is necessary to deliver your story and manage any revisions. Once a commission is fully complete I do not hold onto personal information beyond what is needed. Squarespace may retain certain technical and platform data for longer periods in accordance with their own retention policy, which you can read at squarespace.com/privacy.

Data transfers

Squarespace is a US-based company. When you use this site, certain data may be transferred to and stored in the United States. Squarespace manages these transfers in compliance with GDPR through standard contractual clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For more information visit squarespace.com/privacy.

What I will never do

I will never sell your information. I will never share your details with any third party beyond what is described in this policy. I will never use your story, your name, the details of your commission, or anything you shared with me as a sample, a case study, or in any promotional material — without your explicit written permission.

Your story was made for one person. It belongs to one person. That is not a policy position. It is what I believe.

Your rights

You are protected by GDPR. You have the right to know what personal information I hold about you, to correct it, to request its deletion, and to object to or restrict how it is processed. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In Portugal this is:
